The role:

The post holder will plan, produce and prepare teaching materials for lessons on a daily basis. The team will give notice of the resources required and the Technician's role is to organise these resources and ensure a safe learning environment. The Technician will ensure all the equipment is in place in time for the students to use during the lesson.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To carry out planned maintenance, repairs of teaching resources on a regular basis and report to the Curriculum Team Leader and Assistant Learning Area Manager any defects that affect Health and Safety concerns or lack of resources.
  • Assist the CL and Engineering Team in buying and gathering quotes and resources for purchasing equipment for the teaching to take place in teams. The procurement will follow College policies, stay within the annual budget and track the use of resources by controlling the use of stock and maintain a register of inventory.
  • Prepare teaching aids which have been approved and developed by the team to supply a range of learning experiences for students. The post holder will communicate progress with the team using a technician's diary and by attending team meetings.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for staff and students.
About you:
  • Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant field or prepared to work towards i.e. machinist or welder / plater
  • Use of IT - able to use spreadsheets or willing to be trained.
  • A commitment to and awareness of Health & Safety.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and be attentive to detail.
